As an ATL transplant (sorry, not sorry), I not only love exploring this city I now call home but also discovering all the incredible spots within driving distance for the perfect local getaway. Here are some of my favorite recommendations for the perfect day trip.
Ellijay – Apple Picking & Mountain Views
Drive Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Ellijay is known as Georgia’s apple capital, and if you visit in the fall, you’ll find plenty of orchards where you can pick your own apples. But this charming mountain town is worth a trip any time of year. As my first local solo trip, I went to Ellijay to celebrate my birthday a few years ago and it was so charming. I felt like I was starring in my own Lifetime movie (minus to cute love story). Hike the nearby trails, explore local wineries, or stroll through the cute downtown area filled with antique shops and cozy cafés. It’s the perfect mix of nature and small-town charm.
Blue Ridge – A Mountain Escape with Cute Small-Town Vibes
Drive Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
If you’re in the mood for fresh air and breathtaking views, head up to Blue Ridge. Start your day with a cozy breakfast at The Blue Ridge Grocery, then hop on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway for a picturesque ride through the mountains. You can also go hiking, explore the local shops, or sip wine at one of the nearby vineyards. It’s the ideal mix of adventure and relaxation.
Chateau Elan – Wine Tasting & Luxury in North Georgia

If you love a good glass of wine (or just want to live your best bougie life for a day), Chateau Elan is calling your name. This gorgeous winery and resort offers tastings, vineyard tours, and even spa treatments if you’re feeling extra. Whether you go solo or bring your crew, it’s giving main character energy all day long.
Serenbe – A Hidden Gem for Relaxation & Inspiration
Drive Time: 45 minutes
If you need a peaceful getaway, Serenbe is the spot. This picturesque community feels like stepping into a storybook with its charming homes, scenic trails, and artsy vibes. Stroll through the farmer’s market, grab a bite at The Hill, or book a spa treatment at The Inn at Serenbe. It’s the perfect place to slow down and romanticize your life for the day.
